Onimusha: Way of the Sword Bosses
The hardest fights in Way of the Sword are not tests of aggression alone. Each asks you to watch a particular kind of pressure, protect your stamina, and decide whether a risky Issen is worth the moment. Learn the encounter first; the damage follows.

The Boss Rematch archive
PowerPyx's Boss Rematch list identifies 18 fight entries, including enhanced or altered encounters. The published list begins with Byakue and its enhanced version, then Dohatsu-ten and its enhanced form, before moving through Nue, Sasaki Ganryu, Daidara, Rasho-gan, Benkei, Ifuu and Burai, Shuten Doji, Dokyo, and Minamoto no Yoshitsune.
This is a Boss Rematch menu order, not a verified story-progression order. It is useful as an archive and practice index, but it should not be read as a chapter sequence. A familiar name also does not promise the same encounter: enhanced versions add pressure, new states, or more punishing patterns. Carry what you learned forward, but reopen your read of the arena.
| Encounter group | What to focus on |
|---|---|
| Byakue / Dohatsu-ten | Build timing confidence before committing to counters. |
| Nue / Ganryu / Daidara | Read mobility, arena control, and resource pressure. |
| Benkei / Ifuu / Burai | Respect armor, phases, and multi-opponent variation. |
| Shuten Doji to Yoshitsune | Reserve resources for long, high-stakes endgame fights. |
The universal boss approach
Start a new boss with patience. Block only when you need the safety; it costs stamina, which can leave Musashi exposed. Instead, use the opening minutes to identify attacks you can parry, attacks you can deflect, and attacks that demand a dodge. The right answer is not always the flashiest one.
Deflects deal meaningful stamina damage, creating the condition for Break Issen. Issen is the higher-risk precision counter: it can deliver a large payoff, but forcing it without a stable read is a quick way to lose control of the fight. Use the safer defensive loop until the timing is yours.

Boss Rematch and Carnage
Boss Rematch is available in the Practice Grounds, according to the trophy roadmap, and the highest difficulty is part of the full completion path. Carnage is unlocked after the first playthrough in New Game+. That structure makes practice useful: you can treat a rematch as a place to learn animations and defensive choices before putting the same knowledge under the game's strictest conditions.
Individual boss pages will follow after their specific mechanics, rewards, and phase details have been independently checked. This P0 page is the reliable map: it gives you the verified order, the preparation logic, and the combat language shared by every duel.
