Onimusha: Way of the Sword Walkthrough

Updated 4 September 2026 · Story Guide

The safest way through Onimusha: Way of the Sword is not to rush the finish. The main story keeps its momentum, but the closing stretch changes what you can revisit. Treat your first run as a measured route: explore when the game gives you room, then stop for a deliberate cleanup before the final mission.

Kyoto is the game's central setting, transformed by Malice.

Follow the story, then preserve the cleanup window

The opening journey introduces Miyamoto Musashi, the Oni Gauntlet, and the rhythm of deliberate swordplay. You do not need a perfect-completion route from the first minute. The useful rule is simpler: take visible rewards as you travel, complete side content when it is available, and keep a manual save as the story approaches its final mission.

PowerPyx identifies The Clash At Rendaino as the final mission and notes that the game presents a Point of No Return before it begins. Its roadmap also reports that free-roam and cleanup remain available up to that point. That makes the prompt a planning moment rather than a reason to panic: finish outstanding exploration, check side activities, and create a separate manual save before you cross it.

Before the final missionMake a manual save before starting The Clash At Rendaino. It gives you a clean return point for unfinished collectibles, upgrades, and side content.

Prepare for every encounter instead of forcing one style

Musashi is not built around relentless attacks. The combat loop rewards you for reading the opponent, defending on time, and taking the opening you earn. If a fight begins to feel like attrition, take that as a cue to re-examine the enemy's stamina, your soul resources, and the defensive option the attack is asking for.

Use Spirit Mirrors as your regular reset point. They are the natural place to save, review progression, and later enhance equipment and abilities. The route will give you more value when you let those breaks turn scattered materials into a real plan rather than hoarding every resource until the end.

Completion route: what carries into the next run

A complete trophy or achievement run takes more than one pass. Carnage difficulty becomes available only after a first completion, and the published roadmap places it in New Game+. Skills and equipment carry forward, so the first journey is where you should establish the systems and supplies that make the harder route less punishing.

Do not treat this as permission to ignore the world. The final cleanup window is still where you should check collectibles and side content. The second run is best used for the difficulty requirement and remaining upgrades—not as an excuse to reconstruct every missed route from memory.

How this walkthrough is organized

This P0 walkthrough is a route-and-decision guide, not an unverified chapter-by-chapter transcript. It will expand into individual mission pages only after each route, location, condition, and reward has been cross-checked. Until then, use the linked combat, boss, and collectibles guides to answer the decisions that matter during a live run.
